Scope and content

Record of proceedings at quarter sessions, made, or more often annotated, in court. The volumes up to 1693 contain judicial proceedings only, but from 1710 administrative matters (bridge repair, poor law business etc.) are also recorded. From 1799 'proceedings in the grand jury chamber', the administrative business, was noted in a separate series of minute books but the sessions books still contain the draft minutes up to 1811. Two volumes survive from what was presumably a series of judicial proceedings in a fair copy.
