Biographical history

John Field was born in Rochdale (Lancashire) in 1885, son of John Field leather merchant (1846-1914) and Sarah (née Sutcliffe). In 1908 he married Annie Wroe of Baston (Lincolnshire); by this date he was a farmer, having acquired an estate at Bintree (Norfolk) where he became involved in parochial affairs.
Field was Councillor for Twyford c 1944-1945 and the Chairman of the Finance Committee; he also served on the Mid-Norfolk Area Assessment Committee, the Salvage Committee and Evacuation Committee. He was on the board of managers for Bintree Church of England school probably c 1913-1947. He was treasurer for at least some of this time (possibly c 1916-1930).
