Correspondence, prospectuses and photographs relating to 'The Breckland of Norfolk: The Land of Babes in the Wood' by Charles Kent and works by George Borrow

Correspondence, prospectuses and photographs. As well as editiorial and publication issues, the letters cover the breaking of the publication agreement between Kent and Jarrold and Sons. There are also some press clippings and a copy of a letter from Prince Frederick Duleep Singh congratulating Kent on the book. The 35 photographs are of scenes around the Breckland and a male figure, probably of the author himself, and were intended for the publication. Some were found in an envelope marked 'do not use'. In addition to this, the file contains drafts and copies of a press notice put out by Kent and printed by Jarrold and Sons appealing for funds for the Collegiate Church of Tompson.

Found in the same file was correspondence and notes relating to the publication and republication of works by George Borrow. This includes letters from James Hooper, the planned editor of the publications and a letter to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, requesting access to Borrow manuscripts.

A copy of ''The Land of Babes in the Wood' can be found at JLD 3/4/114.
