Letters to Mary Berthalina 'Bertie' Mann [1874-1955, eldest daughter of MEM]. Bertie was a talented artist who studied at the Slade in the 1890s. She was in love with Lieut Hugh Norris, a staff surgeon and friend of her brother Rack, who intended to divorce his wife but was killed at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. After MEM's death Bertie and her sister Margery lived together and died unmarried.
