The Quidenham estate was purchased in the 1760s by George Keppel, 3rd Earl of Albemarle, with prize money from the capture of Havana in 1762. The estate was greatly enlarged by purchases in the 1890s-1900s by Wilbraham, Earl Egerton of Tatton (1832-1909), whose daughter and heiress Gertrude Lucia married Arnold, 8th Earl of Albemarle.

Apart from Quidenham Hall and its immediate surroundings, the Quidenham Estate consisted in 1952 of about 7,000 acres across nine farms in Quidenham and adjacent parishes, that is, in Quidenham itself (Down Hill Farm and Home Farm), Kenninghall (Grove Farm, Cromwell House and Hall Farm), East Harling (Harling Hill Farm), Eccles (Hall Farm and Manor Farm) and Banham (The Moor).
