Correspondence of Captain the Hon. Frederick Charteris (1836-1887), son of the 7th earl of Wemyss, and his wife Lady Louisa (1836-1936), née Keppel, daughter of the 6th earl of Albemarle. Both were talented amateur artists who exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery. The majority of the letters were written while Frederick was shooting and fishing in Scotland. There is also a bundle of letters of condolence on his death in 1887, and a small group of miscellaneous letters addressed to Lady Louisa.

Most of the photographs are captioned, often naming individuals and places. Many of the photographs are early Kodak snaps taken by HRH Princess Victoria, one of Queen Victoria's daughters. Presumably, others were taken by royal officials and Keppel family members. Autograph signatures of members of the British royal family are also included.
