Administrative history

The Consistory Court dealt with cases arising from the bishop’s and archdeacons’ visitations and other matters, such as dilapidations of church property and the misappropriation of church goods. The Bishop attended the court at first but over time his place was taken by his legal representative, the Chancellor of the Diocese.

2 Printed indexes of testators and their place of abode, 1370-1857, in Norfolk Record Society, vols 16, 21, 28, 34, 38 and 47.
3 Typescript indexes of testators' occupations taken from Norfolk Record Society index vols for 1370-1818: Norfolk Record Society, vol. 47, includes an index of testators' occupations, 1818-1857. The Norfolk Record Society indexes were compiled from the original manuscript indexes and the register entries.
4 Typescript index of names of all persons mentioned in wills proved 1498-1533 in Manuscript Searchroom.
5 Administrations, 1370-1502, were entered in the will registers: typescript index compiled from entries in will registers.
