Born 18 April 1753. Son of George, 1st Marquis, and Charlotte Compton. Succeeded his mother as Lord Ferrers and Lord Compton, 1770, and summoned to the House of Lords as Lord Ferrers in 1774. Created Earl of Leicester in 1784 and 2nd Marquis Townshend of Raynham in 1787. President of the Society of Antiquaries, 1784-1811. Died 27 July 1811.
