'In the list of honours conferred on the occassion of his Majesty's birthday appears the name of Sir William Haggard, of Bradenham Hall, Norfolk, who is created K.C.M.G. For many years past he has been a distinguished member of the Diplomatic Service. From 1887 to 1890 he was secretary to the Legation at Athens. From 1890 to 1894 he was Minister-Resident and Consul-General to the Republic of Equador. In 1894 he was Consul-General at Tunis, and in 1897 Minister-Residenary in Venezuela, and at the present time is his Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Brazil. Sir William, who was created a C.B. in 1894 in recognition of his services in dealing with President Castro at Caracus, married in 1887 Emily Margaret, daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Hancox, and had issue two sons and two daughters.'
