Born at Worlingham, Suffolk. Son of Thomas Gooch, gentleman, of Great Yarmouth, and descended from the Gooches of Mettingham, Suffolk. First wife, Mary, daughter of Revd Dr William Sherlock, London. Second wife, Anne Atwood of London. Third wife, Hannah, daughter of Sir John Miller of Chichester. One son. Educated at the grammar school in Great Yarmouth, and at Caius College, Cambridge. Became Vice-chancellor, Fellow and Master at Caius College. Rector of East Cheap, London. Chaplain to Queen Anne. Archdeacon of Essex. Consecrated Bishop of Bristol where he stayed until 1638. Translated from Bristol. Nominated 29 August 1738, confirmed 17 October 1738. Translated to Ely 11 March 1748.
