Charter of Edward I

Grant to the burgesses, in consideration of expenses they have incurred in the King's service, of their gild merchant and the lands and buildings belonging to it; that burgesses should not be impleaded before, nor serve on juries of, courts outside the borough in respect of tenures within the borough or contracts entered into inside the borough. The Mayor may, as previously, make distraints for leving tallages and other aids from the community, and the burgesses are not to be deprived of their liberties because of non-use. Dated at Westminster, 33 Edward I.
