At an inquisition held in 1372, Joan, late the wife of John de Loudham, was found to have held the manor of Edmund, son of Sir Thomas Ufford. John, son of John de Loudham, was heir [IPM 1:13/160]. Sir Thomas de Loudham died in possession, 1385-6; heir his son John [IPM 1:16/260].\r\nOwned by the Kemp family from the later seventeenth century; Sir Robert Kemp was lord in 1736. Later lords include Eleazar Davey (occurs 1784); James Smith (early nineteenth cent); Sheldrake Smith (occurs 1840), William Betts (occurs 1876). Betts was succeeded as lord by Francis Taylor.\r\nLast transaction dated: 1897; lords of the manor: Henry Edwards Paine and Richard Brettell; Steward: George F. Beaumont [TNA, HMC 5/6].
