Administrative history

The first Women's Institutes were founded in Norfolk in 1918. There were 22 which included Barnham Broom and District, Ditchingham, Hardingham, Hethersett, Hickling and Hingham. The Norfolk Federation of Women's Institutes was founded on 1 February 1919. From 1952, the Federation's office has been based at Evelyn Suffield House, 45 All Saints' Green, Norwich. The house was named after the Federation's first Chairman and President, Lady Evelyn Suffield. The Office, which is staffed by a full-time Federation Secretary and other staff, acts as a meeting place for all the Federation's sub-committees.
Supports Women's Institutes in Norfolk in a variety of ways including administrative, publishing the 'WI Gazette', and organizing training, events and activities.
