Archival history

The majority of these records were stored in Nestle's Chapelfield factory in Norwich. Many of them were deliberately collected together by Miss J. H. Rudd, one-time personal secretary to company director, John Mackintosh, and 'M-C' company newsletter editor, and afterward company archivist, and by her sucessors in the Norwich factory. On closure of the factory, the records were divided between the Rowntree Mackintosh Archive in the Borthwick Insitute, York, and the Norfolk Record Office. Stray records within this collection have been transferred from the Rowntree-Mackintosh archives stored at the Borthwick because they were deemed to be cognate with those archives from the Norwich factory already deposited in the Norfolk Record Office.
