Scope and content

The records created by the Reclaiming the Past Project, hereafter referred to as the Project, are sound recordings of oral history interviews with people involved in local Mencap Societies, transcripts of these interviews and a publication that was written as a result of the Project. The Project's aim was to look at the role of local Mencap Societies in the development of community care in East Anglia. Though the Project looked at the whole of East Anglia, the material deposited with the Norfolk Sound Archive relates mainly to Norfolk. The Project officer was Sheena Rolph and funding bodies for the Project were the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Open University (OU). Though the interviews date from 2001 they relate to events that took place mainly from 1945-2001.
