Biographical history
Dr Michael John Ockenden was born in London in 1931, and died in 2010. Dr Ockenden was educated at Malborough College, then at St Edmund Hall, Oxford (MA in French), Lancaster University (MA in linguistics), and Liverpool University (PhD in architecture). Though actively interested in architecture and photography, Dr Ockenden was professionally a linguist, and taught languages at various schools and colleges throughout his career, the longest period at Edge Hill College, Ormskirk, Lancashire (1968-91). Following his retirement in 1991, Ockenden keenly pursued colour slide photography, with a particular focus on buildings. In 2002 and 2009, he published two books 'Tower and Steeple: The Story of Ormskirk Parish Church' and 'The English Reformation and the Parish Church' which included his own photographs.
