Scope and content
Formerly known as Friar John Brackley's Armorial [circa 1460]. Contains 73 coloured drawings of arms of the Pastons and Mautbys, and their matches, as well as obits and pedigrees of Pastons and Barrys (fo. 58-fo. 63) and a French grammar (fo. 64-fo. 66). Norman Davis (in 'MS Walter Rye 38 and its French Grammar' in 'Medium Aevum' xxxi (1962) no. 2) suggests that this is actually a Paston book of arms, c. 1450, and concludes that the handwriting of the obits and grammar is that of William Paston (d. 1496), son of William Paston (d. 1444), rather than that of Friar Brackley.
