History
Former Norwich Workhouse, on the northside of Bowthorpe Road, and housed 1,050 inmates when built in 1859. In 1930 the workhouse passed to the city council's Public Assistance Committee and was renamed the Public Assistance Institution. In 1941 the city council, then the Norwich Corporation, renamed the site the Woodlands Hospital and it was managed by the Health Committee of the local authority.
