Property of Benedictine abbey of St Benet (in Horning, Norfolk), annexed to the Bishopric of Norwich by exchange in 1535; listed as a Bishop's manor in the Parliamentary Survey of 1649. Norwich Bishopric estates; Church Commissioners; the Bishop of Norwich is given as lord of the manor in the Inclosure Award of 1814 [NRO, C/Sce 1/14] and in White's Trade Directory (1845).
An inquisition taken in 1492 found that Henry Rous of Denington, Esq., had died in possession of the manor called Royses in North Walsham and Bradfield. William was his son and heir [IPM H7 1/347].
The Bishop of Norwich is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directory, 1883.
