Wife Agnes, six sons including Thomas who was mayor in 1565, Leonard who was sheriff in 1556 and John who was sheriff in 1565. Also five daughters. Sotherton family came from Ludham, Norfolk. Sheriff in 1530, and mayor in 1539. He was a grocer by trade. He was also a magistrate and very wealthy. Owned property at Hellesdon and Ludham, Norfolk. Buried in St John Maddermarket Church, Norwich. Lived in the house now known as Stranger's Hall, Norwich. Died 10 November 1540.
