Biographical history

Born 9 May 1923. Died 18 February 1999 and buried at Ashwellthorpe. Married Richard (1922-2005), photographer.
Lived most of her adult life in Ashwellthorpe in a cottage named Red Squirrels. A lifelong interest in the natural world had been fostered by her parents and this came to be expressed in print in her 'In the Countryside' features in the Eastern Daily Press (EDP). She was a regular contributor to the EDP for over 40 years and also wrote for her local parish magazine.
Passionately concerned with the environment and her local community, she served for 29 years as a councillor, firstly, in 1963, on the Depwade Rural District Council, then on the South Norfolk District Council where she rose to the position of chairman in 1994.
A committed Christian, she was not afraid to express her spirituality in her writings. She attended church at Ashwellthorpe and, latterly, underwent a three-year training course for the office of Reader in the Church of England. She was licensed in May 1998, but served the Wreningham Group of parishes for only nine months before her death.
