The following list of papers created and collected by Tom Eaton, mainly relate to military service, particularly the period when Tom Eaton was a prisoner of war in Changi Prisoner of War Camp, Singapore. During his period of captivity, Tom Eaton took the role of Messing Officer for 'F' Group, therefore many of the papers relate to the provision and preparation of food in the camp as well as providing an insight into camp conditions. Tom Eaton's diary entries which were written in an exercise book, and on scraps of paper, provide a detailed account of the 4th Battalion of The Royal Norfolk Regiment's arrival in Singapore, military operations, his time spent as a prisoner of war, and events leading up to the surrender of Japanese forces, January 1942-July 1944 and 9 August 1945-15 August 1945.

Also included are papers which were created and collected by Tom Eaton after the Second World War, mainly in connexion with Far Eastern prisoner of war clubs and associations, and the 18th Division Association, as well as correspondence relating to, and from former comrades.

These papers were originally received by the Norfolk Record Office (NRO) on 4 February 1971, contained in two boxes numbered box 38 and 39, and formed part of ACC Eaton 04/02/1971. These papers were transferred to the Royal Norfolk Regimental Museum on the request of Tom Eaton on 20 March 2003.
