Scope and content

Surveyors: Browne and Taylor of Norwich. Scale: 10 chains: 1 5/8 inches. North arrow. Shows fields (with numbers, names of owners or occupiers, acreages, manor name (if copyhold); church in perspective; buildings (houses in red, other buildings in black); road names and names of commons.
Originally thought to be a tithe map, but the surveyor is different. Appears very similar to the Attleborough enclosure map of 1815 (C/Sca 2/10) but not an exact copy (footpaths which were stopped up under enclosure not shown on this map; lands exchanged under enclosure give new owners' names). According to Peter Eden’s ‘Land Surveyors in Norfolk’ reprinted from Norfolk Archaeology vol XXXVI part 2 1975, John Browne (c 1793-18[?38]) was in partnership with Richard Taylor as Browne and Taylor between 1814 and 1824. Therefore appears to date fom c 1815-1824.
