Lord Hastings is given as lord of the manor of Briningham on the part of Thornage in White's Trade Directories [1845 and 1883]. According to the MAF's list of known manors, compiled in 1925, the last transaction was dated 1890, the lady of the manor was the Marchioness of Lothian and W. Forster was steward [TNA, HMC 5/6].
