Administrative history

Last transaction dated: 1914; lord of the manor: Sir Maurice Colborne Boileau; Steward: J.S. Forrester [TNA, HMC 5/6].
This manor belonged to the Uvedale family in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and it subsequently passed to the Dukes of Norfolk and to the Crown during their attainder. It was granted by Elizabeth I to Sir Edward Clere in 1600, and then apparently passed to the Brownes of Tacolneston. The descent of this manor, and the other two in Tacolneston, given in Francis Blomefield's History of Norfolk (V, 1806, 164-8) seems muddled and incorrect.
