Administrative history

Edmund, brother of King Edward I, died in possession, holding of the Honour of Lancaster, 1297-8 [IPM 3/309]. Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, died in possession, 1327; Michael de Meldon held the manor from him [IPM 7/82]. At an inquisition held in 1362, Maud, late the wife of the Duke of Bavaria, was found to have been in possession of the manor, holding it of the king. Blanche, wife of John of Gaunt, her sister was heir [IPM 11/231].\r\nThomas Mack is named in the Inclosure Act of 1814 [C/Sca 2/305].\r\nRevd Thomas Mack is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directory (1845).\r\nThos. Mack, Esq., is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directory, 1883.\r\nLast transaction dated: 1923; lord of the manor: Thomas Harry Mack; Steward: T.W. Purdy [TNA, HMC 5/6].
