The Prior of Lewes is named as lord of Snettisham in the Nomina Villarum of 1316. \r\nGranted by the Crown to Sir Nicholas Le Strange in 1548 (NRO, LEST/D 4) and thereafter continued in the hands of the family. In the Middle Ages it was the property of Lewes Priory and is occasionally referred to as Priory manor. Henry L' Strange Styleman Le Strange, Esq., is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directory (1845).\r\nHamon Le Strange, Esq., is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directory, 1883.\r\nLast transaction dated: 1920; lord of the manor: Charles Alfred Le Strange; Steward: F.H. Partridge [TNA, HMC 5/6].
