Sir Charles Chad is named in the Inclosure Act of 1827 as lord of the manors of Thursford Heydons and Thursford Sheltons [NRO, C/Sca 2/298].\r\nLast transaction dated: 1863; lord of the manor: Joseph Stonehewer Scott Chad; Steward: G. E. Simpson [TNA, HMC 5/6].\r\nThe Duchy of Lancaster held the jurisdiction for the leet court in the township of Thursford [NRO, MS 19752-3].
Name of creator
John Lestrange of Litcham died in possession of a moiety of the manor of Little Narryngs 1304-5, heir his brother Ralph [IPM 4/308]. Robert Burgolioun is named as lord of Great Snoring in the Nomina Villarum of 1316. Robert le Burgelyon died in possession of manor of Great Narrynges, which extended into Thursford, 1321-2; heir his son Hugh [IPM 6/324]. Hugh Burgulon died in possession, 1349-50; heir kinsman Ralph son of Ralph de Skelton. The IPM states 'the manor called Narrings and that called Snoring are one and the same'. [IPM 9/182]\r\nThomas Dennes is named in the Great Snoring Inclosure Act of 1811 as lord of 'the manors of Great Snoring, Cantlow, Netherhall, and Snorings otherwise The Little Manor in Great Snoring'. [NRO, MC 2907/7].\r\nJohn Dugmore, Esq. of Swaffham, is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directory (1845).\r\nMessrs Payne and Brettell are given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directory, 1883.
