Administrative history

Inquisitions post mortem provide information about the tenant-in-chief of the manor: Robert de Bosco died in possession, holding the manor of the Earl Marshal, 1298-9; heir his son Robert [IPM 1:3/522]. Robert de Bosco died in possession, 1311-2, the manor having been bought jointly by Robert and his wife Christiana from William de Bosco and Berard of Great Cornherthe [sic]; heir his son Robert [IPM 1:5/335]. At an inquisition held in 1372, Alice, late the wife of Sir John Howard, was found to have held the manor of Lady Segrave. Robert was her son and heir [IPM 1:13/267]. An inquisition of 1388-9 states that Sir Robert Howard had granted the manor to William de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, in 1379-80 [IPM 16/701].
The Duke of Norfolk is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directories [1845 and 1883].
Last transaction dated: 1866; lord of the manor: Duke of Norfolk; Steward: F.T. Cuddon [TNA, HMC 5/6].
