Administrative history

Richard de la Rokele died in possession of the manor 1295-6, dower to Cecily his wife [IPM 1:3/355]. Richard son and heir of Richard de Rokele died in possession of two parts of the manor 1303-4; heir his sister Maud, whom Roger de Fraxino married [IPM 1:4/213]. An inquisition of 1331 found that Robert Banyard had died in possession of the manor, held of the Bishop of Norwich as of his manor of Elmham; heir Lucy daughter of Roger atte Asshe, whom Robert son of Robert Banyard married [IPM 1:7/290]. \r\nThe Marquis Townshend is given as lord of the manor in White's Trade Directories [1845 and 1883].\r\nLast transaction dated: 1922; lord of the manor: Marquis Townshend; Steward: Ratcliffe Pope [TNA, HMC 5/6]. \r\nFor further history of the manor to the early eighteenth century, see F.
