Administrative history

All or part of this manor was held of the Honour of Clare. The Earl of Pembroke died in possession 1323-5; heir John Hastings [IPM 1:6/518]. John Botetourt died in possession, holding of Earl of Pembroke 1324-5 [IPM 1:6/587]. Mary, Countess of Pembroke, died in possession, held of the Honour of Clare, 1377 [IPM 1:14/339]. Philippa, daughter of Earl of Arundel, bought the manor jointly with John Halsham in 1388-9; she died in possession 1395-6, with John still alive; her heir John de Halsham their son [IPM 1:15/664]. The manor was sold along with Wood Rising and Scoulton, and land in Cranworth and Southburgh, to Edward Bedell, Esq. by Francis Crane in 1664 [particular, NRO, NRS 17021].
