Administrative history

First Court of Robert Jegon, Esq., held 12 October 1631. In court book of 1664 Robert Jegon, Esq., is still listed as Lord of the Manor and in 1667 Arthur Jegon, Esq., held his First Court which was followed by a First Court for Anne Jegon (widow) in 1669. In 1688 there is a First Court for William Paston, (second) Earl of Yarmouth (d.1732). By 14 January 1765 Thomas Anson was the Lord of the Manor. On 20 November 1775 George Anson was listed as the Lord of the Manor (no first court mentioned). On 20 November 1797 Thomas Anson, Esq.,was noted as the Lord of the Manor and then at a court held on 23 November 1808, Thomas Anson, described as 'The Right Honorable Thomas Viscount Anson'. His son Thomas William, Viscount Anson is listed as Lord of the Manor on 15 November 1820. This Thomas Anson (1795-1854) later became the First Earl of Lichfield. On 20 January 1829 Samuel Bignold was listed as Lord, Sir Edward Stracey, Baronet on 27 February 1841 and Sir Henry Josias Stracey, Baronet on 26 January 1859. In the Kelly's County Directory of 1937 Sir Edward Paulet Stracey is noted as the Lord of Buxton Levishaw manor.
