System of arrangement

This section is a partial revision of Henry Harrod's 'Repertory of the Muniments in the Evidence House at Hunstanton 1869' (hereafter Harrod). The reference numbers reflect the storage arrangements at Hunstanton where the documents were sorted and stored in 'trays'; they do not show the place of the document in the hierarchical or archival arrangement of the collection. Additional material, after 1869, was added to the trays but not recorded in Harrod. This partially revised list includes some of this material. Harrod was also annotated to denote items missing at Hunstanton and also items transferred to the NRO. Entries noted as 'Missing' in Harrod are described in this catalogue.

Some trays and bundles have been clearly split. Some documents exhibit signs of water damage sustained at Hunstanton and were dis-ordered perhaps when drying-out: LEST/AM, AN, AO, AP and AQ.

Some numbers appear twice. A number may refer to a tray containing several documents with no sub-numbering within the tray. A manor court book may record several courts but each court is described individually in different parts of the catalogue.
