Biographical history

T/Sgt William B. 'Bill' Lybarger was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 9 September 1922. He served as radio operator with the Konstand Crew (crew no. 711) of the 857th Bomb Squadron, 492nd Bomb Group. When the 492nd Bomb Group disbanded, the Konstand Crew was transferred to the 68th Bomb Squadron, 44th Bomb Group. During the crew's 28th mission, 28 December 1944. They were shot down over Kaiserlautern, Germany. He was held as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft XIII D. He died on 9 October 1969.

Phyllis Bunnelle (died 13 December 2009) was married to William B. Lybarger and produced a memoir of his service.
