History

Frederick John Wise, born on 10 April 1887, came from Souldern in north Oxfordshire. Major Wise stood unsuccessfully in the constituencies of Harborough (1931) and Lowestoft (1935) before gaining a parliamentary seat in 1945 in King's Lynn, where he served as MP until October 1951. In 1950, he was living at The Windmill, Heacham, and, from at least 1958 onwards at The Great Wood Cottage, North Elmham. On 24 December 1951, he was elevated to the peerage as Baron Wise of King's Lynn. He was Mayor of the Borough of King's Lynn from May 1953 to May 1954 and President of King's Lynn Charter Pageant, 1954. He died on 20 November 1968.
