Biographical history

Born on 10 November 1781, in Albemarle Street, London.
Second son of Harbord Harbord, first Baron Suffield, and his wife, Mary, daughter and coheir of Sir Ralph Assheton, bt, of Middleton, Lancashire. Edward Harbord was born on 10 November 1781. He married Georgiana, daughter and co-heiress of George, second Lord Vernon, on 19 September 1809. She died on 30 September 1824. On 12 September 1826, Edward Harbord married Emily Harriott, youngest daughter of Evelyn Shipley, of Ettington Park, Warwickshire, and Longh Fea Castle, county Monaghan.
Edward Harbord was MP for Great Yarmouth (1806-12) and Shaftesbury (1820-1). He campaigned for better conditions in prisons, the abolition of slavery and the relaxation of game laws. Established Norfolk County Cricket Club.
He died on 6 July 1835, as a result of a fall on a horse.

Lancs?]) re Gunton water supply, water ram. 18 April: James Easton (Southwark) to Suffield (Vernon House) re same and enclosing brochure on his patent ram: enclosed together:- Theophilus Smith (Middleton Hall) re enclosed list of building leases and lease of corn mill: and also including: 1) Gunton Hall expenditure. 1 July 1833-1 July 1834: 2) Summary account with Messrs. Drummonds. 1 Jan to 15 May 1835: 3) Gunton Park receipts and expenditure. Half-year ending 1 July 1835: 4) Account with Gurneys' Bank - showing rents, tithes, timber et al. 1 Nov 1834 to 1 Feb 1835: 5) Statement showing savings in letting of Vernon House: also including:- Receipt for subscription to 'Mirror of Parliament': Catalogued and appeal circular for proposed church at Tonge (near Manchester) with list of local subscribers. 1835.
