Biographical history

Born 11 July 1700. Son of Charles, 2nd Viscount, and Elizabeth Pelham. Father of George, 1st Marquis. Lord Townshend bore the title of Baron Townshend of Lynn[e] before inheriting his father's viscountcy in 1738. Died 12 March 1764 at Raynham. MP for Great Yarmouth, 1722-1723; Lord of the Bedchamber to George I, 1723-1727; Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, 1730-1738.
