Return voyage from St Helena to Guernsey, reaching St Peter Port in February. Promotion to rank of corporal. Quevillart's company temporarily moved to Grand Roche barracks between March and June. Escort duty to Fort Pitt Chatham, and to Edinburgh. Embarked for Canada with draft regiment in July, and stationed in Quebec until September, when he received discharge from the army and returned to England. Re-enlisted immediately with 13th Light Dragoons in the hope of seeing active service, but was 'shuffled into' the 6th Dragoon Carabineers, and joined the latter regiment at Hounslow barracks. Volunteered to join 1st Royal Dragoons on active service in the Crimea.
