Born 23 February 1834 in London. Son of Thomas and Katherine Sheepshanks. Educated at Christ's College, Cambridge. Spent 7 years in British Columbia. Vicar of Bilton, Yorkshire, 1868-1873, and vicar of St Margaret's, Liverpool, 1873-1893. Bishop of Norwich 1893-1910. Nominated 26 May 1893, consecrated 29 June 1893, resigned 19 February 1910. Travelled to China, Mongolia and Siberia. Wife Margaret, daughter of Dr Ryott of Thirsk, Yorkshire. Died 3 June 1912. Lived at Hill House, Bracondale, Norwich.
Wrote: 'A Bishop in the Rough'; 'A Pastor and His Parish'; 'Unction and Confession'; 'A Volume of Sermons'; and 'My Life in Mongolia and Siberia'.
