Geschiedenis

Daughter Joan married Sicilian king. Surname was the place of his birth and education. Common practice for father's name to be dropped. Elected 26 November 1175, consecrated by Richard, Archbishop of Canterbury, at Lambhithe 14 December 1175. In 1187 he took the cross as a devotee to the Holy Land. Built the church of the Holy Trinity in Ipswich, Suffolk. Finished Norwich Cathedral and repaired the part of it which was burnt down in his predecessor's time. Built almshouses for the poor. Buried in the choir in Norwich Cathedral. Called John the First, as he was the first bishop of that name.
Wrote: 'The History of the Kings of England, Defence of the King Against Archbishop Becket, An Account of His Embassy into Sicily' Also wrote diverse epistles and orations. Died 2 June 1200.
