Born at Hadleigh in Suffolk in 1560. Died 12 May 1619. Wife was from Lancashire.
Attended grammar school, then St John's College, Cambridge. Student and later Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. Doctor of divinity. Master of St Catherine's College. Instituted to the vicarage of Epping, Essex, in 1592. Prebend of Totenhale on 29 May 1602. Dean of St Paul's, London. Promoted to the bishopric of Coventry and Lichfield. Transferred from Lichfield, consecrated 3 April 1614 and translated to the Norwich see. Nominated 9 May 1618, confirmed 30 September 1618. One of the translators of the Authorized Version of the Bible. Buried in the choir on the south side in Norwich Cathedral.
Wrote: 'Bishop Overall's Convocation Book 'and other theological works.
