Educated at St Catherine's Hall, Cambridge. Chaplain to the Earl of Nottingham, and lord chancellor of England during the reign of King Charles II. Doctor of divinity. Presented by the Dean and Chapter of St Paul's to St Austin's, London on 13 December 1687 which he voided. Nominated Bishop of Norwich 25 April 1691, confirmed 2 July 1691 and consecrated 5 July 1691 at St Mary le Bow Church, Cheapside, London. Translated to Ely 31 July 1707. Born at Sutton in the Broughton parish. Died 31 July 1714.
