History

Eldest son of John and Ellen Marsham. Wife Elizabeth, daughter of Hammond Claxton of Chediston, Suffolk. Five sons and eight daughters. Son Thomas was mayor in 1554, and son Robert was rector of Stratton Strawless, Norfolk. Sheriff in 1510 and mayor in 1518. In 1510 he was elected sheriff but excused from serving a fine of 40s on account of the death of a brother who was a factor beyond the sea. He was a grocer and leading merchant in Norwich, and very wealthy. In 1511 he went to London to justify the city of Norwich in their contest with the prior and convent of Norwich. Buried in the south aisle of St John Maddermarket Church, Norwich. Lived in a house at the corner of St John Maddermarket and Charing Cross in Norwich. Died 13 May 1525.
