History

Born on 20 May 1908, Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA. Only son of Alexander and Elizabeth Stewart. At age 33, enlisted in the Army in March 1941 and in August 1943 he was assigned to the 445th Bomb Group at Sioux City Army Air Base, Iowa. He was first Operations Officer of the 703rd Bomb Squadron and later served as its commander, holding the rank of Captain. While flying missions over Germany, Stewart was promoted to the rank of Major. In March 1944, he was transferred as Group Operations Officer to the 453rd Bomb Group at Old Buckenham, a new B-24 unit. He continued to serve in the United States Air Force Reserve after the war, achieving the rank of Brigadier General, 23 July 1959. Died: 2 July 1997.
