Betty Colby worked at an Occupation Centre based in Great Yarmouth, with mentally handicapped children and young adults. The Occupation Centre was administered until 31 March 1971 by the Health Department of Great Yarmouth [Borough Council] and from 1 April 1971 by the [same Council's] Education Department. In 1945, when Mrs Colby started work at the Centre, it was based in Park Baptist Chapel, Great Yarmouth. From there it moved to St Mary's Church on Southtown Road, then to a school on Suffolk Road in 1956 and then became the John Grant School in Caister.
