Art prints and press cuttings

A bundle of documents belonging to John Jarrold, comprising part of a mid-twentieth century booklet of East Asian-style art prints with commentary in German, although the cover and several pages are missing; a press cutting about the next Lord Mayor, briefly mentioning John, from the Eastern Evening News 12/01/1972; two editions of 'The Listener' magazine for 1978, one of which contains two press cuttings about the Reverend Edward Norman, Dean of Peterhouse, Cambridge.

Press cuttings, mainly relating to personal events, plus menus for 70th birthday party

Press cuttings relating to personal events in the life of John Jarrold, plus one cutting relating to Ann Jarrold, his son Antony's wife, photographed at a local event. Also, two menus for John's 70th birthday, one signed with birthday messages from family members, and one letter from John's term as Lord Mayor, relating to proposed Norwich Corporation parties for pensioners.

Miscellaneous correspondence, press cuttings and ephemera

Two letters to John Jarrold, one regarding the sale of 415 Unthank Road, Norwich in 1961, the other regarding his allowance as Lord Mayor of Norwich in 1970-1, written in 1972. These were found with press cuttings covering Jarrold events, such as awards won, property bought and bicentenary celebrations, many of which are marked with the date, possibly in John's handwriting. File also contains a copy of the Jarrold & Sons bicentenary dinner menu (1970) and a German-language pamphlet on Lothar Krall, a candidate with the liberal German Free Democratic Party in Koblenz.

Bundle of press cuttings, correspondence, event programmes and ephemera relating to Lord Mayorship and CBE

Newspaper cuttings relating to John's term as Lord Mayor of Norwich (1970-71), covering engagements and events. Some clippings are German language and relate to his official visit to Norwich's twin town of Koblenz in 1971. Event programmes and invitations relate to mayoral engagements and were found with the official mayoral Christmas card, featuring a photograph of the Jarrold family (three copies). Correspondence comprises thank you letters, including one from the Bishop of Norwich, William Lancelot Scott Fleming, as well as a letter about the mayoral allowance. There is also a telegram of congratulations from American relatives. In the same bundle are cuttings relating to John's reception of a CBE (1969) and a menu for a Chamber of Commerce dinner from 1967, when John was president of the Norwich Chamber. In addition, two clippings of 1971 found with the other items relate to Norwich events of 1971, but do not make direct reference to John.

Minutes of meetings held in the Lord Mayor's parlour

Two sets of minutes, 8 Dec 1970 and 22 Jun 1971, the earlier during Herbert John and Catherine Grace Jarrold's term as Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, the later shortly following this. The purpose of the meetings is to allow local charities 'to hear about what the other ones were doing and to find ways of helping and co-operating with each other'.

The later set of minutes states that the meetings were established by Catherine Grace Jarrold during her term as Lady Mayoress.

File of engagement diaries, correspondence, press cuttings and associated items relating to Grace and John Jarrold's term as Lady Mayoress and Lord Mayor of Norwich (1970-1971), plus other Norwich events.

File includes weekly and Christmas engagement diaries and confirmation of engagements notes for the Lady Mayoress and Lord Mayor, many of them marked 'Lady Mayoress'. Correspondence is mainly thank you letters, some addressed to Grace and some to John. The press cuttings in this file cover engagements attended by the former Lord Mayor, Jessie Griffiths (1969-1970), some on Norwich events which do not mention any mayoral involvement, and some 'Sayings of the Week'. The file also contains a guest list and invitation to events, a list of local Justices of the Peace, two reports on Norwich museums and twinning from the 1960s and a report on Bedford College of Physical Education's Old Students' Association, of which Grace was an alumna.
