Photocopy of letter from Ann Pilgrim of North Walsham to her son, Robert Larter of Newark, New Jersey, America, 1846. Mentions her joy that he was still alive and at hearing from him after such a length of time, that she was continuing the business as a licensed victualler (including selling ginger pop in summer) with Alfred [probably her son] apparently after her husband's death, debts she owed, high prices, and family news, including the theft of teaspoons, a watch and money from aunt and uncle Howlett, which was due to come up at Quarter Sessions.
Photocopy of letter from William Larter of Mundesley to his uncle [Robert Larter], aunt and cousins in America, 1863. Gives farming and family news, also mentioning recent high tides which eroded parts of the coast around Mundesley, and the distress in the manufacturing districts caused by the scarcity of cotton during the American Civil War, and collections made in aid of distressed weavers.
