Miscellaneous deeds and papers concerning the ownership and transfer of advowsons including proceedings under the Benefices Act 1898. Some are probably stray papers from the registrars' work as solicitors.

Scrapbook of news cuttings, often obituaries of county personages and aristocracy, photographs of local country houses, local postcards, art and antiquarian sale catalogues and auction notices, memoranda and Carr's in-letters from various correspondents, concerning Carr's biographical, antiquarian and local interests, with Carr's own annotations on the pages of the volume, often supplementing the pasted-in items, but also recording unrelated facts or snippets of news. Documents include a printed lithograph of the interior of St Edmund's RC Church at Bungay, c 1880, copies of the Ditchingham National School and Town Trust accounts, 1902-1903, service order, photographs and copy address at a memorial service at Norwich Cathedral for surgeon, William Cadge, 1904, and photographs and handbills re the King George V coronation celebration games at Ditchingham, 1911.

Two albums of 255 monochrome, photographic prints of views of the railway line from Southtown and Beccles, via Belton, St Olave's, Haddiscoe and Aldeby , including sections of the line itself, the stations, signal boxes, crossings, swingbridges and occasionally, the steam locomotives and rolling stock on the line.

The subscription books are numbered as far as possible in accordance with the numbering used in E.H. Carter, 'The Norwich Subscription Books'. Usually the subscriptions are intermingled but where they can be distinguished a note has been made.
From 1558 all clerks were required to swear an oath of allegiance to the crown and in 1571 (formalised in 1604) all clerks before their ordination or institution to a new benefice were to declare their assent to the three Articles of Religion: recognition of royal supremacy; use of the Book of Common Prayer and adhesion to the 39 Articles of 1562. To these requirements was added an oath against simony and other oaths before institution. Schoolmasters, physicians, surgeons, and midwives were required to subscribe to the 39 Articles and royal supremacy before being granted a licence.

Registers and lists of persons ordained deacon, or priest, occasionally noting the examination of a candidate's literacy (often expressed in terms of their college degree), their title (that is, proof of possession of a curacy, benefice, college fellowship or other means of subsistence suitable to the ordinand's new order) and letters dimissory from the bishop of a stranger's 'native diocese' (that is, a letter from another bishop recommending a candidate for ordination).

Under the Inspection of Churches Measure, 1955, churches were to be inspected by a surveyor approved by the diocese within five years of the passing of the Measure and every five years thereafter. A quinquennial report was received by the diocese and the parish and can sometimes be found amongst the parish records and the records of the surveyor. Occasionally, a repair specification was drawn up at the time of the inspection and sent with, or instead of, the report. The Diocesan Advisory Committee is now responsible for the administration of these records.

Contains Parish Council minutes, Dec 1894-Mar 1992; annual Parish Meeting minutes, 1988-2007; declarations of Councillors, Apr 1931-Apr 1946; receipt and payment accounts, Feb 1895-1988, with VAT accounts, 1973-1984; Hemsby Poor's Charity minutes, 1904-1956, including accounts, 1904-1943.

Deeds and reports relating to the augmentation of livings. There are also some deeds of transfer of advowsons and impropriations.

The confirmation returns until 1942 are statistical returns only, giving details of how many male and female candidates will be presented from each parish.

Books in which were enrolled the proceedings on the consecration of new churches, churchyards etc.

Comprises plans showing drainage and well at the prison, as well as details of prison scaffold and cell fittings.

Accessions data is reasonably well recorded before 1939. There was no archivist at the Norwich Public Libraries during the Second World War but the Norfolk Record Society officers kept on rescuing and collecting archives and these were gradually brought in to the Library in the years following 1950, collections often being muddled and provenance forgotten. The situation was made worse by a new chief librarian in 1955 who destroyed any accessions correspondence the library had, though notes with the records themselves and box labels in the series termed 'pre 1955 uncatalogued' are sometimes helpful. 'Pre 1955 uncat.' includes documents deposited directly, as well as those received via the Norfolk Record Society.

In the following list, the Hobart of Blickling collection is referred to as 'Lothian' and the Harbord of Gunton collection as 'Suffield'.
