Archdeaconry of Norwich: Archdeacon's Register Bills (also known as Parish Register Transcripts and Archdeacons' Transcripts)

  • ANW 13
  • Fondo
  • 1600-1812

Usually running Easter to Easter, were returned at Archdeacon's Visitations or at Bishop's Visitations when the latter were held, which was normally every seventh year. They were originally filed by the year, but the Archdeacon's Transcripts have been re-sorted by Deanery and by parish within the Deanery. The Archdeacon's transcripts from Norwich City parishes only have been re-sorted into years, however. These yearly files appear to be represented:

For this Archdeaconry transcripts for the following years were returned to the Bishop and survive with the Bishop's Transcripts:

1691-1692, 1705-1706, 1708-1709, 1715-1716, 1722-1723, 1724-1725, 1728-1729, 1734-1735, 1739-1740, 1746-1747, 1752-1753, 1759-1760, 1762-1763, 1769-1770, 1776-1777, 1783-1784, 1790-1791, 1793-1794, 1800-1801, 1805-1806, 1812-1813

It should be emphasised that all transcripts do not survive for all parishes for these years; and that some transcripts were returned to the Bishop in normal years and some to the Archdeacon in Bishop's years. From 1813 onwards, all transcripts were returned to the Bishop.

For transcripts in other classes, see ANW 6/30-31, 311, ANW 15/5 (photocopies of these have been placed in the main series).
