The list includes records of Union Assessment Committees, established by the Union Assessment Committee Act 1862 and replaced by the Area Assessment Committees under the 1925 Act. Area Assessment Committees were established under the Rating and Valuation Act 1925, section 17, to revise and approve draft valuation lists; and under the Local Government Act 1948, sections 33 and 44, were replaced by local valuation panels.
